An area merging method in map generalization considering typical characteristics of structured geographic objects

نویسندگان

چکیده

Merging is an important operation in the map generalization of land-cover and other coverages. We define structured geographic objects as collections adjacent areas with homogeneous semantics that are regularly arranged spatial structures. Existing studies have concentrated on unstructured objects, which will lead to ones losing part or even most typical characteristics during merging. Therefore, a supplement existing mature merging method, targeted method was proposed this paper address problem objects. First, were classified into four patterns, they identified automatically according seven structure parameters. Second, Miter-type buffer transformation introduced extract overall boundary inside processed appropriate operations for their pattern. Finally, corresponding merged results inserted back result original data by using NOT operation, conflicts near adjusted. test our dataset geographical census city China. The experimental revealed compared state-of-the-art produces more reasonable effectively identifying maintaining structures; moreover, also preserves planar tessellation characteristic balance area variation each class.

Toward Self-Generalizing Objects and On-the-Fly Map Generalization

Map generalization is a complex task which requires sometimes human intervention. In order to support such a process on-the-fly, we propose a generalization approach based on Self-Generalizing Objects (SGOs) which encapsulate geometric patterns (forms common to several cartographic features), generalization algorithms, and spatial integrity constraints. During a database enrichment process, an ...

Spatial Clustering of Related Structured Objects for Topographic Map Interpretation

In topographic map interpretation, spatial clustering, i.e., detecting a mosaic of nearly homogeneous sites, is a means for automatically detecting the continuity of morphological environments characterizing a map area. The goal is to group structured objects, i.e. spatial data collected at different sites, such that data inside each cluster models the continuity of morphologic or socio-economi...

Representation of Map Objects with Semi-Structured Data Models

Mapping agencies world-wide produce a range of different types of maps, in efforts to meet different user requirements. These maps are usually designed in a digital environment and some of them are distributed through the World Wide Web. One important issue for those agents is the appropriate modelling and handling of map objects from which the digital maps are composed. , This paper focuses on...

Determining the structure and map of vegetation of Mirabad protected area (Iran) using DEM and Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

The Mirabad protected area (S. Azarbaijan, Iran) has a variety of ecological nurseries due to elevation of the sea, physiographic factors, micro-climates and soil types, and has high vegetation diversity. Mirabad protected area in the Piranshahr-Sardasht axis is between the latitudes of 36° 23' and 36° 31' north, and the lengths 45° 15' and 45° 25', with an area of 11435 ha, in the elevation ...

An Improved Ihs Fusion Method for Merging Multi-spectral and Panchromatic Images Considering Sensor Spectral Response

While many remote sensing and GIS applications require both the spatial resolution and spectral resolution be high, image fusion, or in other words, image sharpening, is a useful technique. To date, numerous image fusion techniques have been developed. However, some undesirable effects such as modified spectral signatures and resolution overinjection are produced. In this paper, a novel spectra...
